The Consumer Court in Bangalore, India, decided that the PVR INOX cinema chain must compensate for the delay in screening the film which occurred in December 2023. The case that happened to Abhishek MR (30) began when he ordered three tickets for a Bollywood film which was scheduled to be shown at 16.05 local time, but the film only started at 16.30 because the trailer and advertisements were 25 minutes long. In his lawsuit, Abhishek stated that the delay made him lose valuable time and disrupted his schedule, so that he could not return to work on time after the film ended.[1]

He claimed that the incident caused mental suffering and caused losses that could not be measured in money. "In the modern era, time is money. Everyone has valuable time, and no one has the right to waste other people's time and money," he said. He added, "It is very difficult for busy people with busy schedules to watch unnecessary advertisements."[2]

In the decision that was handed down, the court ordered PVR INOX to pay a fine of 100,000 rupees (around IDR. 19 million), plus compensation of 50,000 rupees (around IDR. 9.4 million) for mental suffering, as well as 10,000 rupees (around IDR. 1.8 million) for the costs of filing a complaint. The cinema stated that screening public service advertisements was an obligation of the government, as well as providing an opportunity for viewers who arrived late. However, the court considered that broadcasting commercial advertisements beyond the scheduled time was unjustified. Meanwhile, ticket booking platform BookMyShow, which Abhishek also sued, was found not liable as it had no control over the screening of advertisements in cinemas.[3] And if you have any legal issue in Indonesia territory, contact us for business inquiry, feel free in 24 hour, we will be glad to assist you.
